Talonted Tips: Galaxy

What You’ll Need

  1. Base coat
  2. Dark polish for base color
  3. Light color for the galaxy
  4. 2-3 bright colors for the galaxy
  5. Makeup sponge
  6. Something to use as  palette for any excess (paper, parchment, foil, etc.)
  7. Dotting tool or toothpick (optional)
  8. Glitter polish
  9. Top coat

STEP ONE
Apply background color
Paint nails a dark shade, preferably a deep blue, purple or black (I used OPI DS Mystery). Another good background color you can use is Serum No. 5 Acai of Relief. This will be your background color and the depths of outer space.

Create galaxy’s highlight
Paint a thin layer of a light color (I used Essie Coat Azure) onto the sponge and dab onto nails, creating the general shape of your galaxy. This will be the highlight in the background of your galaxy. If there’s too much paint on the sponge, dab it onto your palette to remove the excess.

STEP THREE
Create the galaxy
Using the brighter colors (I used Essie Navigate Her, then Essie Wife Goes On and OPI Atomic Orange), continue dabbing onto the base of the galaxy.

Shaping the galaxy and finishing touches
Take your base color and apply it around the galaxies you made to give it more shape and dimension. (Optional) Using either a toothpick or dotting tool, place little “stars” around your galaxies using either a pale yellow or any shade of white (I used Serum No. 5 Day Glow). Top if all off with a shimmering top coat. Here I used Serum No. 5 Fame because I wanted an extra holo shimmer in the sun. Another great shimmer that you can use is China Glaze Fairy Dust. Apply top coat and you’re done!
