The OPI Sheer Tints are sheer translucent colored jellies, but OPI has made them super glossy so they can act as top coats. Actually, I used to make translucent top coats when I was little so I wanted to see how a mainstream brand did these.
According to OPI, you can use these alone or over another color to enhance them. I personally would rather use them in nail art to create a watercolor effect. Now, I’m not sure if it was because I purchased the mini sets (because I really don’t see myself using these much) or it’s the formula, but my bottles seemed to be gloopy, like when you just reached the halfway point of Seche Vite top coat and it starts to get stringy. Either way, not a huge fan of the application.
Now onto the swatches, for each mani where used alone, I used 2 coats.

Definitely would not wear this on its own. I mean… really? Seriously?! Not cute at all.

Don’t Violet Me Down
Here’s how they look over complementary cremes so you can see how it enhances the color and vibrancy. Left is with Sheer Tints and right is without. The undies used from left to right are Zoya Jancyn, Zoya Micky, OPI Can’t Find My Czechbook and China Glaze Tart-y for the Party.
Now, here’s my preferred way of using these sheer tints or other jellies for that matter. Phoenix Beauty Lounge also happened to have the same idea with these and posted a quickie tutorial that you can view here.
Birchbox also posted a quick and easy mani idea using the Sheer Tints. I’ve included the video below.
So, what do you think of these? Personally, I’m glad that I didn’t get the full sized bottles of these, but just the minis. I do like how they look in nail art though.
I’m Never Amberassed looks like nails covered in ear wax (ewww!)…. which ironically, would be very embarrassing! lol! I agree that they’d be fun for nail art, or maybe for enhancing the look of a crelly. But I would never just wear them on their own.
Nail art yes, flying solo no.
Wowzers, these sheer tints definitely add to base colors such as in the second to last picture!! I really should pick at least one of these up. I like the cool jelly appearance and vibrancy that they add. Thank you so much for sharing, these swatches helped so much!
