Catching Up on Nail Art April: Blue Skies, Springtime, Little Critter and Earth Day

I so fail at nail art challenges, I just forget or push it aside thinking “I’ll do it later” and then never do. So I’m catching up to combine my missed prompts into one mani. I’ve done this a few times and I actually like thinking of how I can create a cohesive design and still incorporate multiple nail art ideas, so here goes.

IMG_20150422_205408For the blue skies, I painted my nails with Essie Rock the Boat and applied a quick dry top coat. I then used the watercolor technique to create more realistic nails, doing one nail at a time and only applying 2-3 tiny drops of white for the clouds. If you aren’t familiar with the watercolor technique, I have a pictorial here.

For springtime, I followed the watercolor theme and just did small dabs of color to create a field of flowers. I used a mixture of Zoya Hunter and Serum No. 5 Krypron-Brite for the grass with some highlights using Serum No. 5 Glowin’ of Eden. I used Essie Blanc, OPI Dim Sum Plum, Zoya Mickey, China Glaze Pop the Trunk and Sun’s Up Top Down for the flowers.

For little critters, I tried to think of an animal that I could tie into the landscape art I was creating and thought of Bambi’s skunk friend, Flower. Seemed appropriate, right? Using Essie Blanc and Licorice (my go-to white and black) I did a very quick skunk body and tail.

Now Earth Day was a bit harder to tie in, so I went straight to nature and thought of the preservation of trees. To create the trees, I used Zoya Louise and Flynn for the trunk and branches and Zoya Hunter and Serum No. 5 Twilight Sparks for the leaves.

Overall, I think they all tied together pretty well and since it looks like I’m behind again, maybe I’ll combine the next couple of prompts too 🙂
